Quick read to help understand the underlying basics of an interview.
By deepsoul13
This book describes a 3-step system for what an interview is about and how to master it. I personally did not find the 3-step system helpful, but I did gain a better understanding of what interviewers are looking for. Ultimately the message was that your duty as an interviewee is to make it easy for the interviewers to see why they should pick you. It helps you realize that some questions asked by the interviewers are more to see how you think, especially under pressure, than to see what you'll answer.

It's a fairly thin book, and is a quick read. It does provide some answer examples (both good and bad) to common questions; including the "tell me about yourself" question that everyone hates.

Helpful for those feeling unprepared
By Brian
Do your medical school interviews have you feeling worried or unprepared? Then this book is the right choice for you. The book is relatively short but has many insightful observations and humorous anecdotes. I bought this book because I felt I needed to prepare for my interviews, and after reading the book and preparing, it game me confidence going into the interview season, which was priceless.

That being said, the book is giving you one person's opinion. Sometimes the book over emphasizes certain topics or asks you to prepare too thoroughly for some questions. Medical school interviews can go either way, some admission officers hate scripted answers while other ones want very concise and thought out answers. I believe it is a mix of the two options, so if you buy this book and read it, take everything you read with a grain of salt.

After getting accepted at several different medical schools and having had a chance to reflect on how I prepared and performed in my interviews, I would suggest to current pre-med students that they do not over think/script their interviews. Your scripted answers are easy to see through, and often the interviewer just wants you to answer their question. They are uninterested in hearing you answer a question about your weaknesses by going on about your 3 strengths. If they ask a question, they expect an answer. Scripted answers will hamper your ability to answer questions smoothly and confidently. More than anything else, be as genuine as possible, this characteristic is what gets you in. Second, do not shoot yourself in the foot by saying anything that could take you out of the running; there are plenty other fish in the sea that they can pick instead.

Great Preparation and Game-changing
By JCousteau
I bought this book as I wanted to be as prepared as I could for my medical school interviews. This book is the right length and "density" of information, that is to say it's concise but not too abbreviated.

The most important thing I got from this book was how Dr. Fleenor encourages you to view your interviewer as "on your side," someone who wants to get to know the real you and be an advocate for you who presents you to the admissions committee. That's a great psychological game-changer right there for anyone unsure about the interview process. It made me confident, relaxed, and prepared for every interview I had.

I also think Dr. Fleenor's list of questions you might be asked in your interview are a great inclusion, and you should feel prepared for your interview, as well as feel like you know a little more about the admissions process when you're done reading. In short, this book was a great boost, and I'm really happy to be a medical student at my first-choice school. Good luck to all you applicants!

The Bible for non-Digital Inking
By ProfessorF
Just an interesting aside: this book was recommended to me by none other than Mike Royer (one of Jack Kirby's main inker), after I sent him an e-mail suggesting that he write a book on inking.

The content has been covered by other reviewers, so I'll limit my review to the instructional value of this book. Cutting to the chase, this is an excellent book for learning how to ink traditionally, with a brush and maybe some pens.

It has two sections: theory and practice. In the theory section, you learn about light sources, line weights, contours, feathering, & cross hatching and how these combine to help emphasize characters and story.

The practice section is the second half of the book and this is a goldmine of tips from established inkers. The way the second-half of the book works is as follows: (1) a penciled drawing from an artist like John Buscema, Jack Kirby, Gil Kane, & Steve Rude is shown; (2) five or more inkers ink that page and provide commentary about the tools they used and their inking philosophy.

By flipping back and forth between the penciled drawing and the different ways of inking it (and reading the commentary!) you'll eventually learn how inking works and what a well-inked panel looks like. Maybe you won't be able to ink like the stars, but you'll at least be able to better appreciate and comment on inking.

So, why not five stars? To be a comprehensive book on inking comics, there needs to be a chapter on inking digitally or on how to adapt these "manual" techniques to "digital" tools like Photoshop or Illustrator. You can probably figure out how to do this on your own, but it would be nice to have a chapter on this.

Absolutely fantastic how-to-guide
By Michael Link
First off, I would recommend having a basic knowledge of inking and drawing prior to picking up this book. (Knowledge of comics is helpful too!)

I am predominantly a pencil artist, however for the greater part of the past decade I have "traced" my pencils in ink. My though process did not include any way to make my illustration look better. Within the first 25 pages of this book, I had several enlightened "Why did I not think of this before!?" moments. I have read through the book a few times now and have gotten around to practicing some different styles (I might update this post later on with examples). For what it's worth, giving me a better idea how to make my illustrations better and more professional looking far exceeded the price of admission.

A few notes if you had read the other reviews... This book contains several blue-line art boards from professional artists. I would recommend taking them to a print shop and having them reprinted several times on your personal flavor of paper/board. Keep them in the book if possible, because it would ruin the binding without them. (That is my only concern with the book. I would have preferred a "folder" style, meaning the book can be removed with the pages secured on a separate spine.)

Many reviewers commented on the authors use of brushes. I use Copic technical and brush pens (Copic - Multiliner Pen Set - B2). The author is not a dinosaur by any means, but that is his preferred style of inking. A good artist learns to adapt depending on the materials and what they have to draw. Also, as the author states himself in the foreword, it "doesn't mean [he] is saying that [his style] is the only way to ink".

It should be called 'The Holy Bible of Comic Book Inking, by Gary Martin'.
By B.Rank
Wow. What a fantastic book. I ordered this and the DC Comics Guide to inking at the same time and this one was immediately and obviously 'the one' (but get the DC guide too). Great instruction and theory. A big part of the genius of this book is the section where they have an artist draw up a tight comic book page and send a copy to 5 or 6 different inkers in the industry to ink in their own style and to add their own commentary. Amazingly informative. And THEN, when you feel confident in your learning there are those same penciled comic book pages folded on bristol board included the back of the book. Freud and Beyond: A History of Modern Psychoanalytic Thought, by Stephen A. Mitchell, Margaret J. Black

Freud’s concepts have become a part of our psychological vocabulary: unconscious thoughts and feelings, conflict, the meaning of dreams, the sensuality of childhood. But psychoanalytic thinking has undergone an enormous expansion and transformation over the past fifty years. With Freud and Beyond, Stephen A. Mitchell and Margaret J. Black make contemporary psychoanalytic thinking—the body of work that has been done since Freud—available for the first time. Richly illustrated with case examples, this lively, jargon-free introduction makes modern psychoanalytic thought accessible at last.

From Library Journal
Inclusive, integrated, and lively, this book sets a new, high standard as an introduction to contemporary psychoanalysis. The authors, both of whom are respected as teachers, clinicians, and theorists, concisely demythologize Sigmund Freud and engage themselves with a score of his key successors (including five women). Brief biographies and succinct theoretical summaries are fleshed out with clinical examples. Sophisticated but unpretentious, the authors have a grasp of philosophy and history of science and the ability to make sense of the most difficult writers, including Harry Stack Sullivan, Melanie Klein, and Jacques Lacan. Students, therapists, and serious general readers will find this richer than Charles Brenner's An Elementary Textbook of Psychoanalysis (Doubleday, 1974), sounder than Judith Mishne's The Evolution and Application of Clinical Theory (Free Pr., 1993), and more readable than either.?E. James Lieberman, George Washington Univ. Sch. of Medicine, Washington, D.C.

From Booklist
Mitchell and Black, experts in the field of psychotherapy, have written an excellent work on the history of modern psychoanalytic thought and on the ideas and theories of several prominent psychotherapists. The various schools of thought are introduced and basic concepts are explained as the authors explore the work of such major psychotherapists as Sigmund Freud, Henry Stack Sullivan, and Melanie Klein, eventually encompassing all the major developments in psychoanalytic thought since Freud. Although this is an extremely well written book and provides a clear, thorough introduction to several theories about the mysterious workings of the mind, the jargon inherent in this field makes it somewhat difficult to read. Readers will need at least a basic understanding of or interest in psychotherapy to comprehend it fully. Kathleen Hughes

From the Back Cover

Brief yet very good introduction to psychoanalysis.
By Michael Strassberg
This book is an excellent beginners text on the history of psychoanalysis. It is by no means exhaustive, nor could it be. It simply covers too many important personalities to be more than introductory, yet it fulfills that purpose admirably. The book traces the history of thought in and about the subject of psychoanalysis. It begins with Freud's discovery of the psychogenic nature of hysteria, to his discovery of the unconscious, some of his other theories, and how he applied them in clinical management of patients. Others studied under him, and came to realize new facts about the mind, and new dimensions in the way it operates. This, in turn, gave rise to newer theories. The book traces this expansion, synthesis and sometimes clash between theories to bring us to our present understanding of the mind. The meaning of these theories is demonstrated in concrete terms by the inclusion of clinical cases to demonstrate the various types of pathological manifestations. The book flows very well from one psychoanalyst to another, emphasizing the indebtedness of each to their predecessors. Sigmund and Anna Freud, Adler, Bettelheim, Jung, Sullivan, Bowlby, Kahn and many others are revealed. It is both scientific and historical at the same time, and is very engaging. A good read!

Essential Guide
By Susan McConnaughy
Mitchell and Black provide an essential guide to the major theoretical developments in the field of psychoanalysis since its founding by Freud. They do just what you'd want them to do: they introduce you to each major theorist as a person as well as a thinker, they put each theoretical development in historical perspective both in the context of psychoanalysis and the larger social picture, they show how each thinker developed and how they responded to challenges in the field, and they show how unresolved issues led to the next theoretical breakthrough. All this is done in an accessible narrative style that even educated beginners will find rewarding. Social work students in my classes found this book very helpful. Mitchell and Black are both seasoned clinicians so their writing sometimes sings with clinical insight.

By cemerson@pacbell.net
Mitchell and Black have produced a comprehensive account of psychoanalytic thought from its origin (with a clear, cogent overview of Freud) to contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice. This book will be useful to students of psychology as well as to more informed readers interested in an enjoyable and well-executed review of the basics of psychoanalytic thought, theory and practice. A good read.

Best toolbook for Six Sigma
By Mohamed A. Baaqil
One of the best toolbook for Six Sigma. You can use the book as a reference to the phases anf methods along with some examples. If you are seeking a book that teaches you SixSigma then this is not for you. The book summarizes all what you need to know about SixSigma and its tools but doesn't go deep.

Most recipes require more than one casserole dish, not an actual tagine!
By a scientist
You cannot imagine my disappointment when I ordered this book to go with my new clay tagine, only to discover the following:
1) Most recipes require stove-top cooking, which can only be done in a heavy casserole dish, a Le Creuset-style iron pot, or a diffuser on a gas stove (which runs the risk of cracking the clay oven)
2) The few oven-based recipes recommend a temperature of 375 - 400 degrees F, crucially about 25 - 50 degrees too hot for a real tagine.
Many of the recipes are fiddly, requiring many (ten or more) ingredients, several of which are extremely specialized. The descriptions of how to cook are often hard to follow, eg, page 75 instructs to place a marinaded fish onto a plate, add two sauces to a dish, add the fish to the dish, cover with foil (surely the lid?) and bake for 10 - 20 minutes until the fish is cooked through. Hmm. 10 to 20 minutes is an unfortunate lack of guidance when steaming fish. I realize it depends on the size of the fish, but this sort of thing can't be checked and some sort of size/thickness-related guidance would have been very welcome.

On the positive side, the book is nicely photographed and the book includes many (actually too many) caveats for those trying to recreate the recipes without the aid of a tagine.

In short, I strongly suspect there are better books to use with an actual tagine. The real problem with this book, aside from an occasional lack of clarity, is the title. It should be:
"Challenging Cuisine: delicious recipes for North African cooking in a variety of modern kitchen appliances."
If that appeals, this might be the book for you. For my part, I can't help being deeply disappointed.

It's fine, not GREAT

The Tagine and Couscous book also by Ghille Basan made me much happier than this book. I'll probalby give this one aways, since in a small NYC apt we don't keep things we don't want. It's not that it's bad, but the other book is GREAT! I gave that one 5 stars.

The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread: More Than 200 Wheat-Free Recipes, by Bette Hagman

A breakthrough bread book by the unchallenged expert in gluten-free and wheat-free cooking.

In Bette Hagman's three earlier cookbooks, she worked with gluten-free flours that are safe for celiacs (those who are intolerant to gluten) and for those with wheat allergies, to create recipes that actually taste good. Knowing from her own hard-won experience that bread is the greatest loss for the wheat, oats, rye, or barley intolerant, she has experimented with exciting new bean-based flours and now devotes an entire book to breads. Here are yeast breads, yeast-free breads, muffins, rolls, buns, breakfast breads, and crackers-a veritable cornucopia to be made in the oven or the bread machine for people who cannot buy breads at a bakery or supermarket but must rely on their own kitchens to provide the staff of life.

Along with dozens of great recipes comes a medical foreword by Peter H. R. Green, M.D., of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University; a beginner's guide to understanding and cooking with gluten-free flours; answers to commonly asked questions about baking with these flours; and a source list of where to buy gluten-free baking supplies. The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread joins Hagman's three previous books, each recognized as the best in this special diet category.

From Library Journal
Anyone suffering from an allergy to wheat will find Hagman's newest book a godsend. The author of three earlier gluten-free cookbooks (e.g., The Gluten-Free Gourmet), she tested and retested recipes to come up with dozens of yeast breads and quick breads, rolls and muffins, crackers, and more for those who would otherwise be deprived of their "daily bread." Most of these recipes can be made either in a bread machine or by hand, and many are suitable for those with other allergies or dietary needs as well. Strongly recommended.

From Booklist
For people with genetically induced celiac disease, finding breads safe to eat presents significant challenges, since the very gluten that holds most breads together is precisely the source of the sufferers' gastrointestinal distress. Hagman, who has already produced one book of general recipes for the celiac affected, turns her full attention to bread. She overcomes the gluten obstacle through use of nonwheat flours, most of which are made from beans of different sorts. To reproduce the "spring" of yeast-leavened wheat flour breads, Hagman recommends the addition of xanthan gum. Each recipe has two sets of directions, one for hand mixing, the other for the easy-to-use bread machine. Along the way, Hagman offers tips for producing breads that will make the celiac feel very little deprived. A useful addition to public library nutrition collections. Mark Knoblauch

BUY THIS BOOK if you want to make awesome GF yeast breads
By mythumpa
Ok, bear with me for some history if you will.

I have 2 fave GF authors, one of whom gave me that first eye-opening muffin recipe. I had no idea there was baking without wheat, and handing that first muffin to my treat-deprived-for-months hubby and seeing his expression as he bit into it, was truly priceless. The other author gave me the best quick breads and cakes, which I freely adapt by substituting applesauce for much of the butter, and sugar substitute for much of the sugar, and they are still comparable to wheat.
But... but. Neither of these gave me a yeast bread that worked for me. Sad misshapen piles of dough that would not respond no matter how expensive the commercial flour mix was. Doorstops, sliced thin and toasted with a lot of melted cheese, that hubby gamely tried to eat. They ended up on the compost pile where they rotted, since even the birds knew better.

I bought this book because it was well reviewed and cheap, and I was getting desperate. I was not hopeful, though, because in the excerpt, the author recommends bean flours to add rise and nutrition, and I cannot tolerate the smell and flavor of garbanzo flour. However, I was seduced by her frequent use of the word "springy" to describe her loaves; this soft resilient texture has been noticeably absent from all my GF attempts. She also repeated a promise of non-crumbly slices; another selling point since all my GF yeast breads were sadly determined to fall apart at the approach of a hand or knife.

The book arrived and I spent some quality time familiarizing myself with it. The most promising flour mix called for Garfava flour, which was out. I substituted half brown rice and half white rice flour for the garfava. I didn't have Egg Replacer, so left it out; the author said that was ok since it's really a dough enhancer like vinegar but has some yeast, minerals, etc in addition to acetic acid to help the rise. (Edit: Using 1/6 part of white bean flour helped the rise and texture of my breads, especially keeping them from settling. The smell is bad, but dissipates once baked. In a later batch I used the egg replacer, which helped also., So the 4 flour bean mix is best, and best mixed as described though you can leave out the gelatin.)

Ok, I had a flour mix. I tried two recipes, the basic bread (to which I added onion powder and a handful of sharp cheese) and the basic yogurt bread, cinnamon raisin variation. The first was mixed and went into a regular glass loaf pan, the second went into a glass casserole dish, both covered with wrap and left on my stove. The cheese bread rose nicely but slowly and went in to bake; the raisin bread (sitting on top of the stove) popped up beautifully after I started the oven. One GF blogger has said that pans make a huge difference in GF yeast bread success, but I saw no difference between the ones I used.

Of course I couldn't wait for the breads to cool; I immediately cut a slice when they came out. It was an epic OMG moment - this bread was springy, moist, FABULOUS. Without comment I handed a cheese bread slice to my hubby; his eyes widened and he said "This tastes like potato bread. It's the best you've made in years."

The next day the breads are still soft, springy, non-crumbly. Both breads sliced easily, tasted great and were closer to wheat bread than anything I've made since we went GF. Hubby had a turkey and cheese sandwich that afternoon; his first in almost 2 years. Bette Hagman is my GF yeast bread guru; I am excited about bread-making again!

Here's what else you need to know. There are 200 recipes here, classic to exotic (amaranth and quinoa, even) and you should be able to find many that suit your taste. You will use 2-3 times more tapioca starch and corn starch than flours(up to 4 cups each for a small batch; that's a 24 oz bag almost), so buy accordingly. If you are just starting out GF, expect to spend a bit on ingredients, maybe up to $200; buy bulk on Amazon! Get a big bowl to make up the mix in; it takes up a lot of space and you need to mix it well. And be prepared to store this lovely mix somewhere cool, dry and dark. By all means try the bean flour in a small batch; some folks aren't put off by the smell and the nutrition you gain is worth the effort. Be sure you spray the tops well with some sort of oil when you prep for rise as the batter is sticky and will stick to the wrap if it possibly can. Watch your rise; if you let it over-rise it will lack oven spring, and will crumple when it cools (Bette tells you what to look for). If you've made breads with wheat before, forget what you know; most of it will hinder your success with GF. You should keep the breads out of the fridge (they dry out), so only cook what you can eat in a couple of days. It's soft and moist, and will mold quickly. Last but not least, when you do have a forgotten loaf end or brownies that get hard and too dry to eat, crumble, dry in a warm oven then pulse in the food processor; voila, GF bread crumbs for cooking and cookie crumbs for pie crusts. This stuff is far too expensive to waste!

Now, go buy this book and get back your yeast breads.

Real bread, at last
By casual gourmet
Stunned by the price of gluten free breads at my local stores, disappointed by the cardboard texture and tiny size, I set out to make bread on my own. How hard could it be? I'm a seasoned whole wheat bread maker after all, and I love spending time in the kitchen whenever I can. Well, all of the recipes I tried on-line were failures. For all the celiacs out there, you know what I'm talking about - the bread falls apart with the first crumbly bite or sticks to the top of your mouth because it's so horribly dense. And forget about making a sandwich with it - none of them rise high to be able to fit a slice of cheese on it.

I decided to bite the bullet and buy a gluten free recipe book and am I ever pleased to have chosen this book! With Bette Hagman's recipes, I was able to make bread that tasted like, well, bread! Bread with a springy texture, that rose high enough to produce a loaf that could be sliced for sandwiches, and which didn't crumble to pieces in my lap.

I didn't give this book 5 stars because I've had problems with the recipes and some of them I just don't like. I've ended up with bread that has a "cap" on it - a huge empty space between the top of the loaf and the body of the loaf. She mentions this in her book and has troubleshooting tips but I haven't been able to fix this problem yet. There are a few recipes that I also didn't like, such as her foccacia recipe - it has an overpowering taste of eggs. The pita bread was hard and dense. The french bread is very, very dense but tastes good. The hamburger buns turn out tasting more like crumpets and they don't rise very high. The pizza crusts are a bit too chewy for me. Despite all that, her formulas actually produce, for the most part, a delicious tasting bread with a great consistancy and I have found my favorite: "flaxseed bean bread, egg and lactose free". It always works for me. The zucchini cheese bread and the dinner rolls are pretty darn good too.

She has 4 flour blends that you can make to keep on hand for her recipes and she includes a nutritional comparison of many gluten free flours to wheat(I like that the garfava that she touts has twice as much protein and fibre than wheat flour). This has made it easier and cheaper for me - I only have to purchase 4 gluten free flours to keep on hand.

There are so many recipes in here that I look forward to trying! Like the ricotta waffles, english muffins, quinoa bread and especially the sourdough.

Bottom line: it's a book that's not perfect but with a little perserverence you'll find some recipes that work well and taste really, really good!

Awesome if you like "white bread" feel

If fluffiness and lightness are your ultimate goals when baking bread, this is the book for you. The recipes are easy to follow for a novice bread maker. I have baked bread for years so I often go a little off the beaten path and have included some notes and recommendations below for you more adventurous types.

Most of the recipes are set up like bread machine recipes and have 3 sizes. I don't own a machine anymore so I follow the hand baking instructions with no problem. A medium recipe will make a super high, super big 9x5 loaf. The large recipe make 2 smaller loaves. I find the smaller loaves to be easier to handle.

If you haven't done much bread making before I would get an instant read thermometer for any hand baking because you want your liquids to be around 110 F and the bread is done when the inside of the loaf is about 205 F.

If hand baking, be sure to score the bread lengthwise done the center right before putting it in the oven. This will help avoid huge air bubbles in the bread. I also brush the top of the loaf with oil (coconut, canola, or vegetable) before I let it rise so it does not stick to the plastic wrap I cover it with.

ALSO, cover the bread with tin foil after about 10 minutes of baking so your loaf does not get too brown.

I have started experimenting with subbing most of the "flours" (as opposed to the starch" ) in the mixes and recipes with whole grain flour like quinoa, millet, teff, buckwheat, brown rice, etc to get a little more nutrition and the results have been just as nice. I also add 1/4 cup of flax meal. (Slightly lower rise, but still incredible for GF bread.)

For fun, I have used coconut flour and coconut oil for a tasty treat. Even added a handful of shredded coconut once. MMMM! Since coconut oil hardens around 78 degrees, I melt it in a cup of the warmed water.

I have been using the sourdough starter with great results. I recommend leaving the lid off of the starter (as long as it is not fly season) when out of the fridge so that it can capture some of the wild yeasts in the air. This makes it more probiotic.

I do NOT use butter milk powder, egg replacer, dry milk powder, rye flavor powder, etc. and have not missed them. I also do not use commercial dough enhancer which I found out is just Soy Lechitan, ground ginger, and vinegar granules. Instead I add 1 tsp of ginger and 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar to the dough. Don't worry, the ginger flavor does not come through in the bread. Just make sure the batter is the right constancy.

Happy Baking

Modern Painting and the Northern Romantic Tradition: Friedrich to Rothko (Icon Editions), by Robert Rosenblum

A view of artistic development which argues that the Paris-orientated orthodoxy of modern art does not allow for achievements which, in the eyes of the author, can be fairly called major. Other work by the author includes "The Romantic Child", and "The Jeff Koons Handbook".

a richly suggestive reading of modern art and its roots
By tim_farrington
I was moved to write this review mostly because the only other review of this wonderful book so far is a misleading two-star from someone who got a bad copy. This is definitely a five-star study of modern art, a sweeping but vividly detailed take on work from the late 18th century through the early 1960s. Robert Rosenblum makes it explicit from the start: he thinks we've been missing a vast and important aspect of the art of recent centuries by seeing it only through the window of "Paris," that is, the pictorial and formal concerns that run from Manet through the Impressionists and Cezanne, and Matisse, Picasso, and the surrealists. You can draw that line and come out at the abstract expressionism of New York as it blossomed in the late 1940s and 1950s, but Rosenblum in this book makes a strong and articulate case for a different lineage for many of those same New York artists, one that traces back to the sublime, spirit-haunted landscapes of Casper David Friedrich and J.M.W. Turner and is infused throughout with the passionate Romantic quest for glimpses of the divine in nature and in humans. It is an exhilarating consideration of various artists whose deepest concern was to approach the sacred through their painting in a time of general weakening of the sense that the Christian legacy was a viable tradition. You may agree or disagree with many of the fine points, and even find the overall thesis not to your taste, but this is a book that will freshen your vision, awaken you to neglected artists and works, and change and enrich the way you look at these artists along the way. The exhuming of the semi-abstract works of the neglected American painter Augustus Vincent Tack is practically worth the price of the book by itself. Be advised though, that in the paperback version I have, all of the (generously many) reproductions are relatively small and in black and white, and serve mainly as suggestions and motivation to seek out and study real quality reproductions and even, God willing, the works themselves in all their glory. This is not a coffee table book, it is a study meant to send you back to these works with new eyes, and I believe Rosenblum succeeds in this wonderfully.

Dissapointed
By Mark Rothko
I was so anxious to read this book after hearing a wonderful review of it, but the copy I received was dirty and old. I don't care to even touch it, yet curl up with it on a clold evening. I need to look for a better quality copy.

Rosenblum draws a clear and fascinating line from the 19th century Northern Romantics to the modernist painters of New York in the mid-20th century. A great read with many visual examples for those interested in the romantic and the Sublime in Art.
