Book came with missing pages, pages out of order, whole chapters missing. It was brand new and sealed so I was shocked. I'm returning and buying the ebook because I need it for school and I can't wait to see if the next one is functional. I hope we don't need it during class or lab...

Lacks clarity and organization

The first time I read this book I did not like it. I figured I was being too harsh. My second time reading it only made me dislike it more. I'm not saying it is a horrible book, but it is not as easy to read as most other textbooks I have learned from.

My main gripes are that the book lacks clarity and organization. The authors use an approachable, casual tone. An unintended side effect is vague language and poor word choice results in confusion. Sometimes an adequate introductory paragraph with a structural overview for a chapter or segment is not provided. In some instances, they provide an overview paragraph then abandon the structure it provided. Other times structure is not logically appealing. Paragraphs may cite information that seems out of place or unimportant and feel overall disorganized/ lost. Additionally, there are outright errors (the instructor had to state when to ignore the text) lead to more confusion.

About the Author

David Lyle, one of the best-informed people in the U.S. in the wood heat field, has tested a great variety of stoves during the past 30 years. For several years, he was the national distributor of Lange stoves in the U.S. In addition to his professional work with wood-burning stoves, Mr. Lyle has heated his own home with wood for several decades. Readers may recognize David Lyle as a former writer for the New York Herald Tribune, and the Associated Press. His articles have also appeared in Esquire, Fine Homebuilding, and other magazines. He lives in Acworth, New Hampshire, where he credits his special knowledge of chimney fires to his experience with the Acworth Volunteer Fire Company.

Fantastic Book

When I started flipping through this book, I became excited -- very excited. This is not a Black & Decker complete guide to masonry stoves. There are no step-by-step instructions on how to build a masonry stove. You cannot walk into the Home Depot and buy a masonry stove or a masonry stove kit. But this book is an absolute treasure trove of theory and diagrams (many historical, but we learn from the past, right?) which, with a little imagination and chatting with your local building inspector, can potentially yield results in the form of energy-efficient, high quality heating for your home -- and, depending on your execution, much more aesthetically pleasing than the forced-air beast currently occupying your basement.

Lacking current examples and photos

This book has a very deep history of heating with wood and even delves into the history of fire. I too was very disappointed to realize that there were very few photographs. And, equally disappointing was a lack of discussion of modern day masonry stoves. There wasn't even any description or anything about the big beautiful masonry stove that is pictured on the cover.

Its been helpful and informative in that I have now learned just how these stoves work and a bit of how they do not work.

Protagonist Margaret Sargent, a young student at a women's college, "a princess among the trolls," is based upon the author herself. The stories are barely disguised and acutely observed accounts of the author's own years as a young New Yorker and describe the failure of a marriage, random love affairs, and a passing flirtation with Trotskyism. About the Author
Mary McCarthy (1912-1989) was a short-story writer, bestselling novelist, essayist, and critic. A member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, she was the author of The Group, Memoirs of a Catholic Girlhood, The Stones of Florence, and Birds of America, among other books. Mary McCarthy's first novel, The Company She Keeps, was originally published in 1942.

Bohemian Life

The Company She Keeps was Mary McCarthy's first novel (as noted above) and follows the life of Margaret Sargent from her first divorce through the life of a gay divorcee to a strained remarriage. Margaret tries to live the life of a twenties heroine (her ideas of the free life very reminiscent of Fitzgerald) but the context of this time had completely irrevocably changed.
The book covers the prewar period with the infighting on the left and the politics of Trotsky and Spain, the coming war and sexual freedom. McCarthy writes with incision and great wisdom, mocking, mourning, and loving her characters all at the same time.
The only problem with the book is that it was originally not a book at all, but several short stories on a theme. As such, it hangs together remarkably well, but before I knew that it had been short stories first I was already puzzled by some of the abrupt jumps and breaks.
This is the first Mary McCarthy I've read, but I will certainly be reading more. Highly recommended.

McCarthy's first book and one of her best

The book consists of six somewhat lengthy "episodes" dealing with a young woman in the 1930s who runs with a very intellectual and bohemian crowd. All of the episodes are interesting and well told, but the best is "The Man in the Brooks Brothers Shirt." It is so good that it alone is worth the cost of the book. It describes an encounter between the young woman and a young man on a train, in which they end up spending the night together. The perspective is told from the woman's viewpoint and McCarthy's insights are incredibly honest, regardless the consequences. Her tone is assured and rock steady; it's a brilliant piece of modern realistic fiction. The whole book is fascinating and enlightening, one of McCarthy's best.

La-Yun Choi is a native Korean speaker.
She was born in Korea and grew up in South Korea and Canada.
She has graduated from Capilano University and also hasÂ an English as a Second Language Certificate from University of Calgary.
She has taught Korean language in several organizations over the years such as Greater Vancouver Korean School, J.E.I. Self-Learning, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. (immigration society), IH language school and My Language Connect.
She has also been working as a Korean translator.
In addition, she is a founder of My Language Connect Language School and wrote Korean textbooks which is used at My Language Connect.

I originally bought one of these workbooks to go along with all the many others I purchased to learn Hangul. This one was by far the best. It's phrased and worded just so, easily understandable, and the directions are simple. This is the best way for someone to learn and/or practice Hangul. I even purchased to more later in the year to tutor my sisters in Hangul! Would highly recommend.

Throughout my many years in the occult, I recall many wonderful things. I was enamored by so many different systems that I just had to try them all. For the most part, I did. Partly because there is so much information about them, finding the information was a breeze. Well, as easy as it could be in the early 80s. Now one can find almost everything about them on-line. There is one problem though, the information on-line and in many books on the subject are very difficult to understand, and as you may have guessed, if you have read my other books, I don’t use conventional methods when I preform magick. I found the convoluted and difficult ways described in the books to be a distraction. A distraction that will most likely turn many people off. It is for this reason I am writing this book.

We tend to hyper-focus on the Judeo-Christian aspects only and for the most part that is what I will also do in this book as well. However, there is also another, just as ancient tradition of Solomonic magick in Muslim tradition as well. I will attempt to synthesize all the information in such a way that will make the use of Solomonic talisman effective and approachable… With that, let us begin.

OUTSTANDING!

Baal kadmon has given us another excellent book here and that's no surprise, but I must say that even by his high standards this is a winner.I got it on kindle first but then realised that the paperback is better because you need to copy/print the talismans so now the paperback is on it's way. The author gives a whole load of history on Solomon and that is not only fascinating but really helps to get a feel for the Magick.I have had huge success with Baal Kadmon's books and am really looking forward to getting going on this stuff because it really resonated with me when I read it.This is a winner!

Very Informative Book

This book is quite educational on the topic of the Seals of Solomon. It goes into detail about how the seals came to be. It also tells not just how to use them but when to use them.
I am very interested in all sorts of books on religions of the world, mythology, and belief systems of people both ancient and modern. So this book was right up my alley as they say.
I will be reading more of Baal Kadmon's books after this one.

About the Author
Hans Garten MD is the founder of an interdisciplinary practice for complementary and orthopaedic medicine in Munich, Germany. His main focus is on myofascial and musculoskeletal system disorders, with special emphasis on metabolic influences on the latter.

Dr. Garten is a certified anaesthesiologist and holds a Medical Board Certificate of Chirotherapy, Acupuncture and Natural Healthcare. He holds diplomas from the International Board of Applied Kinesiology (DIBAK), the American Chiropractic Neurology Board (DACNB), the German-American Osteopathic Association (DAAO) and is a Fellow of the American College of Functional Neurology (FACFN).

Dr. Garten is the founder of the German Medical Association of Applied Kinesiology (DÄGAK) and has been in charge of the educational office of the German Medical Association of Acupuncture (DÄGfA). He has lectured on Applied Kinesiology and Functional Neurology in Europe, South America and the United States.

He has published three standard textbooks on Applied Kinesiology, all published by Elsevier, and a textbook on acupuncture, as well as over 30 original papers on these subjects and nine chapters in additional textbooks. Great for anyone who is looking to learn or advance their knowledge and skills in Applied Kinesiology will love this book! Drs. Garten and Schafer are two amazing practitioners and I encourage everyone to learn as much as they can from them!

Good work for Hans Garden and his translator Jose Shafer

Good work from Dr. Hans Garden and his translator Jose Shafer. It's a good start for practitioners who want to learn manual muscle testing.
It's a very good translation of the German version from Dr. Hans Garden.
