Jon, Layla, and Kristin are three almost-ordinary teens who find themselves thrust into taking responsibility for the safety of our world -- and of multiple worlds. This boxed set version contains the entire trilogy.
Book 1 -- The Portal and the Panther
Jon Parker just wants to survive his last two years of high school and escape his sleepy hometown of Mecksville, Arkansas. That changes when he stumbles into the boys bathroom one morning and transforms into a panther. Discovering he's inherited a hefty duty from his long-dead mother, Jon grapples with what's right, what's wrong, and who he really wants to be.
Praise for Book 1
"This book isn't just about magical realism and exciting fight scenes - though it certainly has those elements too! This story revolves around its young characters and the choices they make about family, friendship, love, and - yes - saving the world from inter-dimensional intruders. The balance is perfect. Real world problems one page, shapeshifting ones the next, all sprinkled with great humour and a few heart-tugging scenes that take the reader even deeper." - JH Price
Book 2 -- The Girl Between Worlds
Jon's childhood best friend, Kristin Krull, has a knack for causing trouble. Whether it's in her dysfunctional relationship with her boyfriend Rob or in her even more dysfunctional family, Kristin's life is an ongoing drama of her own creation. But when she finds out the truth about what's going on with Jon and his new friends, she has to make some real changes or face losing the only person she's ever really cared about.
Praise for Book 2
"Second books in a series aren't often better than the original, but this one is! Kristin is a self-destructive mess and barreling toward disaster with her foot on the gas. She has problems that stack to the sun, most she brought on herself. At the end of book 1, she gets caught up in the secret world of Jon, Layla, and the other shapeshifters... She's forced to dig deep inside, take responsibility for all the damage she's done to herself and others, and do something good for once. She is a character you will scream at, feel sorry for, and cringe at, but you won't forget her." - Jim Window
Book 3 -- The Rook and the King
Layla Sampson has always been the responsible one, the one who follows the rules even when everyone else heads in the opposite direction. Yet to save her little brother, she has no choice but to break the rules she holds so dear. As a result, she finds herself stranded in another world, with no one to rely upon but herself. Will she find her way back home, or stay trapped by her captors?
Praise for Book 2
"Layla has been left behind in another world and finding her--dead OR alive has become the goal of the pack. But she is no longer where they are searching... An excellent final book in an amazing trilogy!!" - Ginny

Good trilogy, very enjoyable read.
By Froggythegremlin
I enjoyed all three books, book3 was the best, book1 came in second and book3 was my least favorite. In all 3 books the characters were well defined and performed within the boundaries of their characters, by this I mean if there character was basically a bad person they didn't suddenly help little old ladies cross the street etc. The story line was weak in that If I had personnel that could pass as humans, why would I use a different species to guard my all important portal for traveling between worlds. I would use my own people. The story line was strong in that we saw that not all people of any of the three species were bad, there were good and bad people within each species just trying to live their lives as best they could. Unspoken plot line "if all people could sit down and talk about just surviving without all the nationalistic BS the world could be a better place". As a teenager I believed that could happen, as a senior citizen I believe it will never happen unless our world is threatened with total destruction. No blatant sex although we knew who did and didn't without blow by blow descriptions. There was violence but it was far less than first 20 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan". I believe my 14 yr old granddaughter would like these books and I would have no objection to her reading them.

Guardians of the Portal Trilogy
By Jade
I read all three books in one weekend. The content was creative, intriguing, and well written, and kept my attention the entire time. I liked the characters, the plot, and the overall ending of the series. The only downside to the series was that the first two books left off on a cliffhanger, but since I bought all 3 books together that was not a problem for me.
I honestly wish that the series wasn't over. I would like to say thank you to the author for the hours of enjoyment I had losing myself in her worlds and characters, and request that if the author doesn't plan on continuing the series, that perhaps a spin-off could be written for Layla.

I reviewed the first book and liked it, but the whole series upgraded my feelings ...
By Krista Gimeno
I reviewed the first book and liked it, but the whole series upgraded my feelings to love. The characters get more complex treatment as they grow in responsibility and accept the fact that blindly following rules is still blindness. Rules have reasons, and unless you know what they are and why they were made, you cannot responsibly and constructively understand when to break them and how. This is all a part of growing up, and something that few coming-of-age books deal with. Breaking rules to grow, yeah; the importance of understanding where they came from, no. So I love this series.
